A social media contest has many benefits when done properly and effectively.
Contests are a great way to give businesses a boost in terms of awareness and really connecting with your audience.
When a contest is run effectively it is a great way to build a strong following. People might not know about a brand or a business until they have heard about it after their family, friends and social cliques share them – and a contest would definitely help them do just that.
Building a community is definitely a strong point to bring up when talking about the benefits of a contest. To think about it, businesses spend so much time building communities in their local neighborhood.
In addition to increasing the sheer number of people who interact with your brand, a contest provides a means to deepen the connection as well. A user-generated content (UGC) promotion such as a photo or video contest is a great way to do just that. UGC contests tap in to the human drive to compete, and they provide an opportunity for everyone to experience their 15 minutes of fame. Most importantly, when participants upload their personal content (e.g., a photo or story) to your promotion, they are naturally invested in your brand.
Below is a contest LMD Power Marketing created to announce the launch of our new site. We were very strategic on how to run this contest as LinkedIn isn’t typically a platform that allows for integrated social media applications such as contest running programs. We wanted to accomplish 3 things:
- Increase brand awareness.
- Gain social following on our company LinkedIn page.
- Show off our beautifully designed website!
